My Facebook has long been deactivated, even longer deleted off my phone, but I miss those pure, early social media days. We are limited by 10 pictures in a carousel on IG today, usually with the very creative caption, ‘photo dump.’ Ew. Either because of my tender age or simply the app from 2008-2013— probably a mix of both— Facebook Albums were a place of no-filter/no-problem sharing with people that you actually knew IRL. There was zero curation applied to what photos made the upload and there was a fun chaos of notifications/dopamine hits as friends liked, commented and ‘poked.’
(Don’t get me wrong, Zuck planted the seeds then for what would grow to be an overall awful beast who spawned similarly awful competitors. I’ll say no more on that now)! But anywho, I hope this series will get us back to the basics of digital photo sharing! I want to be able to look back on pics and look back ideally on a platform that seems to be a pure, safe space.
